In just over a year, Coozmoo took ALTO Garden, a home hydroponics e-commerce brand, from 225 clicks and zero purchases in some months to 27.9K clicks, 5.67M impressions, and 253+ purchases, while getting the brand cited on 290+ pages across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Copilot. The strategy combined traditional technical SEO with early, deliberate GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) work, and both channels grew together instead of competing for resources.

Most agencies are still arguing about whether AI search is "real" yet. We stopped arguing and started measuring. Here's exactly what happened when we ran the ALTO Garden SEO and AI visibility strategy side by side, with the actual Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs, and Semrush numbers to back it up.

About The ALTO Garden

ALTO Garden is a home hydroponics brand that helps households grow fresh, pesticide-free produce without a backyard, a greenhouse, or a green thumb. Their vertical hydroponic tower systems are built to maximize space efficiency while cutting water use and food miles, and the product line is designed for both indoor and outdoor setups.

The brand grew out of real, hands-on micro-farming experience, not a dropshipping spreadsheet, and that shows up in how the founders talk about germination, root health, and yield. ALTO Garden leans heavily on education and long-term customer relationships rather than one-off sales, which made it a genuinely good fit for a content-and-authority-driven SEO strategy.

The Starting Point: What the Data Looked Like Before

Every case study needs an honest baseline, so here's ALTO Garden's from the old reporting window, September 23 to October 31, 2024:

  • 225 total clicks in Search Console

  • 20K total impressions

  • 1.1% average CTR

  • 24.8 average position (page 3, roughly)

  • 374 active users in GA4, with 357 of them brand new

  • 4m 02s average engagement time per active user

  • 0 purchases for the month

That last number is the one that matters most. ALTO Garden had a genuinely good product and a functioning e-commerce site, but almost no one was finding it through search, and the few who did weren't converting. Page 3 rankings and a 1.1% CTR will do that to a brand.

The Strategy: SEO and AI Visibility, Built Together

We didn't treat AI search as a bolt-on. It was part of the roadmap from day one, running in parallel with standard technical and content SEO.

1. Technical and On-Page SEO Foundation

Before writing a single blog post, we cleaned up the things that quietly cap a site's ceiling: crawlability, page speed, internal linking, and metadata across product and blog pages. Poor rankings for the brand's core commercial term, "hydroponic tower," were a direct symptom of a thin technical foundation, so this step came first.

2. Topical, Answer-First Content

ALTO Garden's blog needed to cover the entire hydroponics learning curve, not just push product pages. We built out content around germination timelines, rockwool cubes, indoor grow lights, and crop-specific guides (basil, tomatoes, strawberries, spinach, arugula, peppers), each one written to directly answer the question in the title within the first few hundred words. That answer-first structure matters for Google's featured snippets, and it matters even more for how large language models pull and summarize content.

3. Structured Data and Entity Signals for AI

This step is the part most SEO strategies still skip. We optimized structured data (schema markup) across key pages specifically so AI crawlers and generative engines could parse ALTO Garden's product and content entities correctly, not just so Google's classic algorithm could. Getting cited accurately in an AI overview or a ChatGPT answer depends on the underlying page being unambiguous about what it is and what it's claiming.

4. High-Quality Backlinks, Brand Mentions & Authority Building

Content and technical fixes only go so far without external trust signals. We built ALTO Garden's backlink profile from a low base to 1k+ backlinks across 387 referring domains, which directly supports both classic search rankings and AI citation eligibility, since most generative engines heavily weigh domain authority when deciding what to cite.

We also expanded the strategy beyond traditional link building through digital PR, relevant brand mentions, Reddit and Quora discussions, industry-specific websites, editorial placements, and other trusted third-party platforms. These efforts help strengthen ALTO Garden's online authority, increase brand visibility across multiple sources, and create the independent trust signals that both search engines and AI platforms can use when evaluating whether a brand is credible enough to recommend or cite.

The Results: Organic Search Growth

Fast forward to the current reporting window (November 1, 2024 through January 23, 2026), and the Search Console numbers tell a very different story:

The CTR dip seems concerning at first glance, but a closer look reveals the reason behind it. Impressions grew almost 300x while clicks grew over 120x, largely because ALTO Garden now ranks for thousands of new long-tail queries it never showed up for at all before. A lower blended CTR on a massively larger, more competitive keyword set is a normal side effect of scale, not a sign of underperformance.

On the GA4 side, comparing the same stretch: active users grew 2,557%, event count grew 929.9%, and key events (the engagement actions GA4 flags as meaningful) grew 2,805.7%. Zooming out to the full engagement window from September 2024 through July 2026, total conversions climbed 12,015%, total users grew 10,695%, and total sessions grew 6,448.9%, with a session conversion rate of 8.56% and a user conversion rate of 12%.

The Results: AI Search Visibility ( LLM Visbility )

This is the part of the story most agencies can't show you yet, because most of their clients aren't there.

Google Search Console now directly reports on Generative AI performance (Search) features for ALTO Garden. Over the last six months, the site pulled 149K total impressions inside Google's AI-driven search results, with daily impressions running steadily in the 2,000 to 3,000 range and periodic spikes above 5,000. That's a genuinely new traffic surface that didn't exist as a measurable channel for this brand a year and a half ago.

Third-party tools back this up from a different angle. Across AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Copilot, ALTO Garden now shows up with:

  • 290+ pages cited across AI search engines

  • 53 brand mentions inside AI-generated responses

  • An Ahrefs AI Overview score of 83 (up 26 points) and a Semrush AI Visibility score of 15, with organic keyword counts of 492 (Ahrefs) and 2.8K (Semrush), respectively

Different tools, different scoring models, same direction: ALTO Garden went from invisible to AI search engines to being an actively cited source on core hydroponics topics.

Business Impact

None of this matters if it doesn't turn into revenue, so here's the number that actually pays the bills. Purchases went from 0 in the old reporting month to 253 in the newer GA4 window, a 4,960% increase, and the most recent dashboard pull through late July 2026 shows that number continuing to climb, now sitting at 395 purchases across the full engagement.

For an e-commerce brand, this is the whole point. Organic traffic and AI citations are leading indicators. Purchases, add-to-carts (1,303 and counting), and conversion rate are the outcomes they're supposed to produce, and ALTO Garden's numbers show the funnel actually working end to end, not just the top of it inflating.

What This Means for Other Ecommerce Brands

ALTO Garden's story isn't a fluke of a hot niche. It's a repeatable pattern: fix the technical foundation, build genuinely useful topical content, structure that content so both search engines and language models can parse it cleanly, and back it with real domain authority. Do those four things at the same time, instead of sequentially or in isolation, and organic and AI visibility grow together rather than competing for the same resources.

The brands still waiting to "see if AI search is worth it" are the ones who'll be starting from zero citations while their competitors already have a year of AI-cited content compounding in the background. ALTO Garden didn't wait, and the data above is what that early move looks like on paper.
